| Alternative strategies towards autonomy
or independence, and what is of cardinal importance in all
of them You don't necessarily need to create a
micronation in order to gather greater autonomy or
independence, which in turn can bring long-term benefits
to a small community. Forming a micronation is the
strictly political way of doing things.
Another way to achieve greater than chimerical results is through the creation of a church. Unlike micronations today, churches already enjoy significant tax advantages. In many countries, churches receive tax exemptions on their property, and the benefits often exist whether the minister lives in a church-provided parsonage, owns a home, or rents a home or apartment. Religious organisations are also tax-exempt in their businesses. Even individuals connected with a church can receive substantial benefits as tax deductions for expenses at private religious schools. Moreover, there is also such thing as ecclesiastical jurisdiction, which is a legal reality, and it is recognised and applicable to at least domestic (non-foreign) ecclesiastical jurisdictions, and micronations don't enjoy recognition of their jurisdiction regardless of the scope of the jurisdiction, which at least in theory can be limited by design. For example, another way to create a jurisdiction besides creating a church is through a Certification Mark, although with this strategy there are limits in the scope of the jurisdicition. Recently a new jurisdiction on a US federal level was established by a board's licensing authority, and for the practice of the discipline of Ňedicine®. The creation of this jurisdiction, is a direct consequence of the Naturopathic National Council's successful application for a federal license to practice their profession under Federal Registration No. 3,765,779, through a US Patent and Trademark Office Certification Mark: http://www.naturopathic.us/trademark.html Regardless of whether you choose to support a micronation or church, however, the true story below makes one thing clear: you will not succeed in a significant way through the political or religious side of your activities, but only through the community-building side of your activities. Unless your micronation or church creates many tangible or discernible long-term benefits to a community, you will not see any kind of recognition of your micronation by any state, nor will your church benefit from millions of dollars in government funding. Even in the case of the Naturopathic National Council's successful creation of a new professional health jurisdicition, it should be understood that the competing power to the US federal government's power is that delegated to US states by the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. This power, in turn, is limited to the regulation of health professions that cause discernible harm to the public health, safety and welfare. What is this power called normally? It is called police power, which is the inherent authority of a government, especially a local government, to impose restrictions on private rights for the sake of public welfare, order, and security, and this authority is still reserved to US states under the Tenth Amendment. Since a health profession such as ňedicine does not cause any discernible harm to public health, safety and welfare (and it may even provide a health benefit to the public), it is not subject to, and can avoid through the exercise of prudence, US state regulation. So unless your micronation or church creates many tangible or discernible long-term benefits to a community, and your micronation or church does not otherwise cause discernible harm to the public health, safety and welfare, it will never see the day in which it exercises a significant degree of autonomy or independence.
